I used to use EZTrust made by Computer Associates - a cheap, easy program that doesn't hog your computer resources. However I have changed to Avast because the updates for EZTrust became too big. I had used ZoneAlarm for many years but recently changed to Sygate Pesonal Firewall because of some error messages I was getting with ZoneAlarm.

avast! 4 Windows 95 and up
9 MB |
Free Antivirus Program for home users and non-commercial use.
This programme is so easy to use, simply install it and register it for free within 60 days (Registration Page). An American voice tells you every time updates are done. I have a few friends who have had all it's bells and whistles go off when an email contains a virus but so far I've had no viruses sent to me to test it out. It seems more and more people are changing to this from AVG. Give it a go, it's free.

AVG Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
10.3 MB |
Antivirus Program, free for home users. This is the most talked about and is highly recommended. I have a friend who has installed it and claims it is easy to use. Buzzys Review gives you detailed information about it. AVG Free cannot be installed on server operating systems (such as Windows Server 2003), nor can it be used for the scanning of network drives.

Free for personal use A firewall blocks entry to your pc and this one also blocks programs on your pc from sending out info unless authorized by you. It will run on a Pentium 133 with Internet Explorer 5.0 or later although I have not tested this.

ZoneAlarm Windows 98SE/ME/2000 Pro/XP
|
Free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational institutions). A firewall that is used by many people. It has been known to cause problems for some. I recently uninstalled it after using it for years because I kept getting a message asking for a disk.
